Beginner Boxing in Denver: Find the Right Gym for You

Why Boxing Is for Everyone (Not Just Fighters)

The Queen City is a fighters’ town. Many top UFC athletes travel to Colorado and train in the Denver Metro area. Worth The Fight Boxing, located in Uptown Denver, with plenty of free street parking.

Boxing is known as the Sweet Science! So if you identify as an Artist, you are in the right place!

“The Sweet Science” is boxing’s nickname, highlighting its artistry, complex strategy, and scientific approach to technique, balance, footwork, defense, and offense, rather than brute force alone. It emphasizes skill, timing, and intellect, with boxers using calculated movements like feints, slips, and counters to outmaneuver opponents within a restricted framework, making it a strategic battle of wits and finesse.

Stepping into a gym can be scary and intimidating. Stepping into a boxing gym is crossing a new threshold for many of you. Fear holds many of us back from achieving our highest human potential. At Worth The Fight, we have curated a program that allows everyone to grow and learn at their own pace. Coach Brian is big on the idea of “ Crawl, Walk, Run. “ The more confident you get with strikes and footwork, the faster and more powerful your punches will get!

Boxing is for everyone! I say that as a coach who, in any given class, has a variety of genders, nurses, musicians, IT professionals, multimedia professionals, Starbucks employees, sales professionals, fair voting rights activists, artists, and more. What to Expect in Your First Boxing Class:

For some of you, this will feel like a total-body HIIT workout!

As a beginner, no coach should be pressuring you to spar. Especially if you don’t really know anything. You should look for a space with a welcoming community and a culture designed for self-paced growth.

Boxing is you vs you! The name of the game is to hit and not get hit (although you won’t be hitting anyone or getting hit at Worth The Fight – only the bag!).

At Worth The Fight Boxing, we are a bag-focused fight-and-fitness program. Many people will come into class having never thrown a punch, and that is 100 % fine! At Worth The Fight, we ask you to show up fifteen minutes early before your first class. We start by introducing all students to our Fight Fundamentals, a 6-Punch System, and our naming, while also covering footwork and defensive movements.

You’ll work hard, but you will never feel lost! “ 90% of our customers have never boxed before they set foot in our gym, so you’ll be in good company.”

Each class kicks off with 8 minutes of dynamic warm-up, mobility, flexibility, and core work to get you primed and prepared for your bag rounds. After our dynamic warm-up, we have 3 minutes of striking, footwork and defense. The warm-up 3-minute rounds mimic the focus of our upcoming 6 rounds of boxing. Between each three-minute round. We have 60 seconds of active rest.

Why Coaching and Culture Matter

If you take a class with Coach Brian “The Predator”  Rogers (Pro-MMA Athlete), you’ll often hear him say this. “ I am “fighting” over a “fitness”- type coach.”  Meaning, he wants you to become the best fighter you can be. Brian wants to make you a better fighter and a better athlete.  If you become a better fighter, you’ll also become a better athlete in the process, and fitness is a byproduct and the sum of those activities.

That said, we also welcome people to focus on their breathing between rounds and on recovery and hydration. Be still, and be present. Come back swinging the next round.
